My older brother and I
had a secret hiding place growing up.
The path to get there was brief, but
leaving was off limits.
We were the best kind to keep
such a place hidden: quiet
and certain that we were
very guilty of something.
We’d spent so many years there,
it became our only reality.
But the day came when we were
forced out of this land we’d been given.
Sometimes I try to draw myself
a map to get back there, but
I can’t quite figure out the
precise curve of our insides. -
